RoadIf walking is your daily or weekly exercise then you should read these tips. They will make your exercise more efficient. You will lose more weight, burn more calories and your endurance will increase. All these tips are from Debbie Rocker who is a motivational coach and a walking expert. So here they are, the five useful tips for a more efficient walking

1. Vary your speed and duration

If you lenghten or shorten the period of walking, your body won’t adapt to any routine, so it will burn more calories. For example, walk fast one day for 25 or 30 minutes and do a normal walk for 60 minutes the other day. Do not walk the same speed and the same route every day, because it will become boring. And you don’t want that.

2. Lengthen your stride
Every 10 or 15 minutes while you’re walking, start making larger steps. Not too large, but still comfortable to walk. Do that for 3 - 5 minutes and then return to your normal walking. Why is this good? Because it will strengthen your thigh and butt muscles which are the parts that don’t get much attention during your normal walking.

3. Focus on your core
While walking, focus on your abdominal muscles and keep them tight, which will tone them and strenghten your middle section. Don’t overdo it though. Keep them tight for 3 minutes every 15 minutes.

4. Use a treadmill
Many people think that it’s not that efficient as walking, because you have that belt pushing you along, but if you set it on a good speed it will help your pace outside. Variate the speed of walking on a treadmill every 2 or 3 minutes too so that it won’t become a routine and - boring.

5. Pump your arms
This is the final tip from me. Your arms should be bend naturally at the elbow and you should pump them back and forth during the walk. It will increase your motion and help you tone arm and shoulder muscles as you will also cover a greater distance in less time.
