How many calories do we really need?

700688_sandwich1.jpgThe last few months I gained a few pounds to be hones. The thing is, I really wasn’t eating that much, a healthy supper, a fruit or a jogurt for breakfast and a sandwich or two for dinner. Calculating all the calories together, shouldn’t be more than 2400 - 2600 per day. And the thing is I was also exercising every day: cardio (30 miuntes+), weight exercise etc… but the weight was there. And it stayed there.

The last few days I was thinking how much calories do we really need per day? If I should lose weight, it should be lower than 2000 I guess! And today I came across this article where this guy says in India for example, 2200 kcal per day is the bottom line for not being poor (living in poverty). So, if that’s normal in India, what’s normal in USA or Europe, where there’s more food available? 3000 kcal? maybe 3500? No wonder we’re getting fatter and fatter.

I think if you’re not working out every day and sit in front of the computer most of the day (working), then coming home and watching TV .. 1200 kcal is all you need! For example .. a BIG MAC has about 500 kcal, and to be hones I’m really full when I eat a BIG MAC. If I wouldn’t be moving at all the whole day, two of these would be enough + some water. Oh, speaking of liquid .. just check how many calories a Cola or a fruit juice has .. 1.5L about 500 - 600 Kcal!! That’s like one BIG MAC or Whopper! I mean .. really amazing. That’s why the line of minimum kcal per day should be lowered in my opinion or else we’ll eat too much and now wonder we’ll end up being fat!
